Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Q: How often should I water my closed terrarium?
A: Rarely—maybe every few months! Only water if there’s been no condensation for a while and the soil feels dry.

Q: Why is there mold growing?
A: Too much moisture or not enough air circulation. Open the terrarium for a few hours and remove any moldy material with tweezers.

Q: Can I keep my terrarium in the bathroom or kitchen?
A: Yes, as long as there’s indirect light. These rooms often have higher humidity, which can actually benefit the terrarium.

Q: What if a plant dies?
A: Remove it promptly to prevent decay from affecting the rest of the ecosystem. You can replace it with another humidity-loving plant.

Q: Is it okay if there's no condensation?
A: Yes, occasionally. But if it stays that way for days and the soil seems dry, mist lightly.

Placement

Indirect Light: Bright, indirect sunlight is best. Avoid direct sun—it can overheat the terrarium and cause condensation or plant stress.

LED lights can also be supplemented in place of sunlight.

Avoid Heat Sources: Keep away from radiators, vents, or cold drafts.

Watering

Don’t overwater! Closed terrariums recycle water.

If you see:

  • Fogged glass all day: Too humid. Open the lid for a few hours.

  • No condensation at all for days: Slightly dry. Add a few drops of water using a spray bottle or pipette.

Ventilation

Air it out once a month for 15–30 minutes to prevent mould and refresh the environment.

Also ventilate if you notice excess fog or a musty smell.

Pruning

Trim plants that touch the glass or grow too tall.

Use clean scissors to snip brown or dead leaves to keep it tidy and healthy.
